Went out to Humpy Hollow early Saturday Morning. We got the boat in the water at about 5:30AM and dropped off our crab pots. We were at the north part of the hollow by 6:30 and had our gear in the water shortly after. One line on a ball, one on a diver.
It was slightly raining, mostly overcast with a slight breeze. We figured we should target about 30 feet cause of the morning and the overcast. At around 7 we had our first fish on, pulled in a good pink. A little later we had 4 hooked but lost them all. Then the bite turned off. We trolled south and landed another one and lost 2 more. Finaly at about 8ish we had a crazy run. The hits came so fast that as I was just finishing letting out the diver to about 30 feet (well, we estimated, probably more like 20 to 25) after landing one fish, another hit before I could put the rod in the rod holder. Total of 5 fish landed in about 20 minutes.
Then the wind came. The wind came from the south so it made it next to impossible to control the boat to go with the current. You couldn't go against the current cause it was just going too fast. Most boats left. We tried for about an hour longer. Saw very few nets flying, got no hits. We decided to head north above the Muk ferry terminal to get some shelter from the wind. That's where we landed our final 2 at 50 feet. As soon as we dropped the ball down the fish hit. Big pinks too. All in all, a good day. 9 Pinks between 3 of us and some crab as well.
