My friend and I fished the Westport jetty on March 20 and 21 for about 4 hours each day during the incoming tide. The jetty was very productive compared to last year. On day one my friend caught a medium sized black rockfish on a herring. About half the people on the jetty caught something and the weather was great. On day two I was broken off by something pretty big while fishing with a herring. I'm 90% sure it was a big ling due to the head straight down fighting style. I also caught (and released) an undersized lingcod, and my friend caught one about an inch and a half over the limit. The lingcod were caught jigging. The jetty was pretty packed (I'd estimate 30 people) and almost everybody had a fish or two. The ocean turned really nasty however, and waves began crashing all the way over the jetty in some spots. Getting back to the beach was tricky business because every rock was soaked and you'd get hit by the breaks of a wave semi-frequently. The trick was to fall on your butt when you knew you were going down... not anything important like your fishing rod.

Crabbing was also pretty good. On the 20th we crabbed for about two hours from the docks after fishing and caught two keepers. Both were very hard shelled, and one was a nice big bright one that must have strolled in from the open ocean. Bait was the blackrock fish, minus its fillets of course, and pink salmon minus the fillets (they went wild for the pink).
