My buddy and I visited the Hat Island area today in 8-2 to get a little crabby. Pots went down at around 730am and we pulled them ever hour until 11am. We fished for bottomfish while we waited for the pots to fish. My buddy caught a big dogfish on a chunk of herring, and we also got a few huge-o sansole one of which went in the crab pot for bait, the other was released. In total I think we caught around 10 dogfish between the two of us. Pretty fun on light gear! We were both running medium/light action ugly sticks mine with 6lb mono and his with 10 lb mono. We ran heavy leaders to help keep then from breaking off. The big ones would run for a long time before you could ever turn them, pretty fun stuff. We released them all to harass salmon fisherman......,Ahem, I mean "swim" another day. We got out 10 dungies by 11 with some big old whoppers probly durrn close to 8" or 9". Great day on the water, not very busy and wonderful weather. Can't wait for Fridays area 9 opener.

is there a hat island in 8-2? im sure im mistaken, but the Hat island area i know of for crabbing is in area 7 and is just southeast of Guemes island. Dont mean to be rude!

I believe the proper name is Gedney Island. It's due west of the Port of Everett.

Warning shot is correct, the geographical name is Gedney Island, but the locals all call it Hat due to its square shape much like a hat box.
