We decided to do the crab opener in marine area 7 East. We arrived at the ramp in Larrabee State Park around 2:30 pm and found the ramp high and dry. We ended waiting a couple hours for the tide to get to the point where we could launch the boat. In the water and underway we headed south and dropped the first pot in 40’ of water. We fished 5 pots or rings and strung them out between 40’ and 53’ of water. All depths produced lots of crabs but the larger males were caught in 45’ to 50’ of water. We used salmon, turkey legs and chicken breast for bait. The salmon and turkey legs solidly out fished the chicken breast. Final count for 3 of us fishing 14 crabs 6½”-7½” and I have no idea how many but we returned a lot of undersize or female crabs to the water. All in all, an excellent afternoons crabbing and the weather was beautiful.
