Bought another crab trap and went out today about 1:00 pm. Tried a new area, dropped the traps and went fishing for 2 hours ( no fish, surprize ) upon return to pots had 4 keepers and a few to throw back. Dropped the first pot back into the water then the second. For all you expert crabbers you will love this next part! The second pot my wife threw in and with all the rope. I went to mark the spot on the GPS, looked up and asked my wife where the bouy was? She pointed and said " right, well it was right there" The rope tied on itself and we were sure we just lost a new pot. Sat there in the boat upset over all this for 1/2 an hour or so then thought I would go over the area we dropped it into the water and look for it with the sonar, also decided to drop both downriggers to 80' in the 90' water. The first pass I noticed something in the water and a second later one downrigger started reeling out, she grabbed it and started reeling it in while I shut down the boat, sure enough there it was only to get it about 3' from the boat and it slipped off the weight, the second hit we had it 2" from her fingers before it slipped away. Made several more passes and caught it again, this time when it came close to the boat my wife jumped in and grabbed the float! Crazy woman!!! Wish I had it on video probably would have made a million dollars on that one. Well we saved the crab trap and had two huge Dungeness as well! We fixed the line and went back to fishing. To end the day we came home with our limit of Big Dungeness and a few large Red crabs as well. I may not have figured out how to catch salmon but I sure have learned a new use for my fish finder and downriggers.
