7/27/2010 8:08:00 AMHey, i know its nice to get a picture but please keep the wild kings in the water. Its the law not to bring them out of the water or net a wild king. Check your rule book on how to release them correctly.

7/27/2010 10:53:00 AMThere was no net used (as stated in the report) and the fish was literally out of the water for 15 seconds, and only a few inches out of the water. I'm always very careful with wild fish, barbs are pinched, and there was absolutely no harm done to the fish. Theres lots of people out there doing worse...

7/27/2010 12:48:00 PMJerm, the regulation makes no mention regarding the use of a net, further, you are confusing the freshwater portion of the reg with the saltwater portion.
"Marine Areas 5-13: It is unlawful to bring wild salmon or a species of salmon aboard a vessel if it is unlawful to retain that salmon
(“aboard” means inside the gunwale of a vessel)."
It appears from the photo that the fish is not inside the gunwale, so it's all good.

"Aboard means inside the gunwale of the vessel." Page 21...
So, you may absolutely net any salmon, just keep it out of the gunwale of your boat until you determine if it's a legal fish to retain.

For one thing when you hold a salmon, your are taking some of there protective slim off. Witch can in turn hurt the fish. Granted i know about the gunwale. And it was just a shaker blackmouth so why did you need to take a picture. To prove to you buddies, pointless in my opinion.

7/29/2010 11:39:00 AMJERM, if you ever had a seal take a shaker while you were trying to release it you'd probably change your mind. In the Sound the majority of the fish that I release come out of the water and most get released on the opposite side of the boat while Mr. Fishbreath is waiting for his snack to drop back in the water.
