Well went out to fish the PSA salmon derby today as well as the ducks unlimited derby since they were on the same day..The morning started with getting the boat launched at pt defiance before everyone showed up at the launch, got in the water about 4 am STILL had to park at the top of the hill LOL.. so about 4:45 we started fishing foirst downrigger had a glow green flasher with a glow coho killer 2nd one green uv flaher with a herring also we put a diver down with a kingfisher lite spoon..about 5:15 the diver rod hits the water and the fight was on about a 10 min battle and 1 lost fished..A hour goes by and the diver gets hit again, peeling drag he fights it about 5 mins gets the fish to the boat as its coming i get the net ready and i watch the fish spit the hook just out of reach of the net about a 12 lb chromer, so now 2 lost..I switch my rod to a uv green flasher and a army truck ace hi fly and add a cutplug herring to it around 8 my rod tips start bouncing i grab the rod and feel the fish set the hook from the downrigger and fish on!! about a 15 min battle and 3 nice runs fish coming to the net then WOOHOO hatchery clipped so we net it and now fish in the boat..so i goto the weigh in to see what he weighs turns out to be 17.2 lbs and ended up being the 6th heaviest of the day out of 44, so 6th place wasnt bad for my first derby, had fun and met lots of great ppl...
