This is a 2 day report, since no one has posted a report for the derby this weekend I will. It sucked. On saturday ony 4 fish weighed in first three in the tens and one in the teens, then low and behold a 25+ pounder for first....could someone's buddy been in kingston and drove down a big ole king to hood canal......not just me speculating here.....talked to other guys at the crappy bbq at hoodsport. This was my first derby and I was not impressed...... the fishing sucked not the derbys fault I know but I drove my family down to hoodsport and the bbq looked horrrible, burgers and dogs...not decent bugers and dogs but the IGA left overs from when the freezer went out 2 weeks ago type. So it was better to drive to shelton for dennys than sit there. Hope next year is better, I know the fishing is not in the derby coordinators control but the party could be better, some real grills with chicken and good meat involved maybe a band, plenty of us die hard fisherman would give a little to make a good time of good or bad fishing...just my POV......only good thing out of this derby for me was assisting kyakers in distress on my way home sunday. Fished hood canal since opening.....just a bad year.... Sorry for the complaining but I just would like a better all around family experience next year.
