Sorry for the late report guys. We went out Thursday for some Blackmouth, but it turned out to just be a nice day on the boat in the sun. We launched at 700am trying to hit the morning tide change, but it was FREEZING out, everything was iced over and I had to scrape ice off my window 3 different times in order to see. We went to fire up the boat and she was cold, fired up and died a couple times before the battery was dead, DAMN. So we had to jump it (twice) and get it warmed up before we could ever get out. Ended up putting lines in the water at 9am over on the SW side of the ractrack, marked some bait up near Camano head and hit it pretty hard but only caught 1 sanddab. Up towards Camano there was ICE all over the water, it was a freckin pain in the you know what trying to get around it, once you got within a mile of the island it was 1 solid sheet of ice and you had to turn around, couldn't fish it, the DR line cut right through, but the line on the rod was getting hung up and beat up. Never seen that out there and it was annoying. Water clarity wasn't very good down in 8-2 so we gave up on it and ran to Baby Island.

Once we got to Baby Island we trolled from there down to Rocky Pt in 120 feet of water, but never marked a single speck of bait until we got out over 165+ feet of water. Out in the deeper water we were marking LOTS of bait suspended from 90-130 feet down. We ran the DRs at 90 and 125 but never got even a shaker. We hit that area for a while before moving over to Elger Bay, saw some bait over there and it was again out in the deep water rather than in shallow. No takers. The water up in 8-1 was nice and clear, much better than below.

All in all a good day out, we put 35 miles or so round trip on the boat and the water was class calm. After the ice melted off the boat it was T-shirt weather and we enjoyed beers and laughs waiting for the violent takedown that never arrived. The pic on the right is a bait ball up on the Racetrack, second pic is what we saw up at Rocky Pt.

Tight lines folks.

That's weird for around here... I wonder if the rain had a small layer of fresh water on the top and that froze???

Guess all the blackmouth have migrated over to Area 7? Oh, well... At least you got out!
