I was over in Port Angeles this past Friday and Saturday looking for some halibut. Went out to the 31-36 and battled the currents on Friday. Nothing biting.
Didn't plan on going out on Saturday because of the Small Craft Advisory, but we loaded up anyways to go check out the harbor. To our surprise the stacks at the mill were pointing straight up. We received a tip at the gas station to head north from the tip of the Ediz Hook until you hit 300 feet deep. We fished for a number of hours, and out of nowhere at about 2pm when the tide was turning wham a line went down and we landed this ~52" halibut (68.5 pounds according to the chart)
Great day out there considering it was a small craft. Not a breeze!
Pictured is my father-in-law holding up the boats catch. We were using 2 pounds of weight, spreader bar and a single hook with a heiring under a glo white squid. Rod in the holder watching it drag.
