Went out in area 10 for my first time this year on the crab. i dropped 4 pots the night before. ( 2 me,, and 2 for a friend) My friend and I pulled pots Sunday. The first two pots were underwater, due to tide being a little higher than I planned. Did not find them until later in the day.
At the end, it was a limit of 5 dungies a piece. All crab were around 7" a couple a little bigger.
Had 2 over the limit, so they went back in the drink.

Caught a mess of flounder, some of them pretty good size 12-13" My partner likes to fillet them up, he says they're pretty tasty. OK... now get this. My fishing partner wanted to eat some dog fish.... so.... fishing with "Gobis" a fish from Vietnam (Ranch 99 Grocery store) we caught a dogfish. He had been watching youtube videos on how to gut them immediatly so they don't do some kind of urinating thing through their skin or something.... very strange.
Anyway, he whipped out a fillet knife and went Ginsu on the dogfish. within seconds he had a long fillet of meat. I am anxious to hear what it cooks up like. And then in the most keepin' it green fashion... he fished with a herring out of the dogfishes stomach, and caught another fish.

Just for the record... No dog fish were needlessly harmed in the above photo opp. Like I said, that one went into the frying pan.

Judging by the crater in the head of that dogfish, lucky one of you didn't put a hole in the boat!

That picture looks a bit like a first time autopsy gone a muck! Someone came prepared with a cordless drill and 3/4" spay bit, that is one craneum crater........WHOA! I seriously hope you got help cleaning up the boat. Kinda nice to see the unedited version. How did the motor run? And more importantly, how did you find enough room on the crab buoy's for yet another WaLakes name, address and phone #. Way to go moe (gettin after the crag that is).

Thanks for the excellent report. I like the flatfish. I hope the dogfish turns out well. Fingers crossed.

Quad, after the question arose on another forum of how to prepare dogfish I too googled the video to see how to clean them. He did it correctly, remove the fins tail and head and then skin it. All he has left to do is the skinning, you are just left with a long noodle-like piece of meat. Tons of people eat them over in Europe, etc. as fish-n-chips. I am not ready to go to eating dogfish yet myself though, lol!

I came here to provide update as I am the unnamed fishing partner. Yes, I am.

Fried up some of Mr. Dogfish last night. I thoroughly screwed up how I was trying to cook it (tried to batter, long story, didn't work...) and ended up just frying the thing in a pan. It also didn't help that I left it in big roundish chunks when trying to cook it. Anyhow...

Bottom line, it came out pretty good. Would chow down again, and will in fact as there's about half left. I think the key was almost immediately thoroughly cleaning that guy. I took my knife to that sucker probably within five minutes of it being in the boat and thanks to Youtube learning had it as the pic shows in about another five minutes.

Side note: that big hole in dogfish cranium is from my knife instead of a gun. No weapons were fired in the slaying of that beastie.

"this friend had it de-finned, gutted, and down to a slice of jerky b4 I even noticed." LOL I may need friends like that at Dash Pt next month.
