My wife JoAnn and I had the pleasure of fishing with Toni from WannaFishaLure for pink salmon. We had determined that today we would only jig, as I wanted to do a pink salmon jigging video and field test Toni's lures. We launched out of the sling at Edmonds and went straight to the Shipwreck. I had thought about running over to the south end of Whidbey Island but decided it would be more fun to show Toni the craziness that is Humpy Hollow.

We rigged up with Toni's 1/2 oz jigs (I'm sorry, I can't recall the name, but they were pink, LOL). Fished mid channel to start, deep water, drifting with the tide. Within a matter of minutes Toni had caught one, and soon after lost one. We fairly quickly figured out the presentation the fish wanted and preceeded to have a very good morning. From 6:30 to 9ish we caught 6 and lost several others. I found the best method was to cast "upstream" of the boat, give it a 20 second count of free-spooling, and then slow twitch-retrieve. For about the first hour it was really good, and gradually slowed down. At slack tide the bite just shut down and I saw very few nets waving. After tide change (about 10:30) we hit a few sporadic fish, two more in the boat and lost a couple more. Called it a day about 1:30. We had our best luck in the deeper water, although did work the shallows (20-50 ft) and got a couple there as well. If the day had continued the way it started we would have had a "5" star day. As it was, "4" is pretty accurate. JoAnn had nice time and even got into casting after awhile. She initally caught her fish on a jig suspended off a slip-bobber, 30 ft deep.

I really liked Toni's jigs. They cast a mile, drop faster than a buzz bomb, and looked great in the water. The fish concurred. Check out her website, www.wannafishalure.com. She has a link to her pink salmon jigs, they are "PDS". I even tied on two and that worked great for getting deeper and then working them back up in the water collumn. I'm sure she would expediate your jig order ASAP to get them to you. Let's support one of our own!

BTW, got back to the dock and the fish checker said out of 19 boats back a total of 50 fish were checked in, including our 8, so I feel we did pretty good out there. If we stayed out a bit later no doubt we would have got our last 4.
