Another great day on the water. Woke up at 4:30 to the sounds of wind howlin and rain a pouring. Decided to go back to sleep to see if the weather would calm down a bit. By 7:00 it wasnt that bad out and I decided it was time to hit the water.

Launched out of Cornet Bay and headed to the open watet area just outside of the pass. First stop was Lawsons reef hoping to mark baitfish and maybe some silvers around the reef. Found it a bit hard to control the boat and fish with 4 ft rollers and 18 ft boat. Decided it was time to head closer to the beach.

The wind was perfect to set up a drift jigging the bottom with a 3/8 oz. jig head and orange 3" curly tail body. About 5 mins into the drift, first fish on. Nice flounder in about 23 ft. of water. Repeated the same movements with some motoring into about 20-25ft of water and staying on the bottom. The wind would push me out against the waves creating a slow drift that was just right to jig. Kept repeating up and down the beach for about 2 hours which resulted in 7 nice fish for the freezer.

On a plus note, I learned that salt water fish on the depth finder show up different than fresh water fish. I came over a HUGE bait ball in about 30 ft of water and then the marks were everywhere on the sonar. I dropped a buzz bomb over the side and slow jigged it with the drift and three pulls later had a nice silver on. Got a couple of real good looks at it about 10 ft from the boat in the air. On the second jump the buzz bomb wen one way and the fish the other. I did a big circle and was casting infront of the spot that I caught it but no more takers. Oh well. Another nice day on the water. Was headed home by 12:00. The fish reporter guy was at the dock and was surprised that I was actually after bottomfish. Why pass up a great fishery if it is hard to find other types of fish?
