Had a great day on the jetty! Low tide was 12:30. I hit the jetty around 11:30 to start hiking out. The conditions were perfect—haven't had rock traction like that in a long time. It took 20-25 minutes to hop-out past the fog horn; versus the 45-50 minutes I set aside for wet conditions.

The bite was on most of the day. I started fishing around 12:15, using small jigs and swim baits. My buddy Jordan joined me from 1:00-3:00. By the time he got there I had caught and released 6-8 small black rockfish. Upon his arrival I caught and released my personal biggest cabezon (photo one)—it fought extremely well. Jordan caught 8-10 black rockfish and a kelp greenling before he left. He retained three very nice rockfish (released the rest).

The catching continued after he left. I headed in at 5:30 with my 12 fish bottomfish aggregate limit: eight black rockfish, three kelp greenling, and a rock greenling (photo two). One of the kelp greenling was my personal biggest-- two PRs in one day! In addition I released 14-16 small-medium sized rockfish, a kelp greenling, and the cabezon. It was a beautiful, blissful day full of action!

Very cool type of fishing. Can the Jetty on the South West end of Ocean Shores be accessed for fishing? Approximately how far would Westport be from Ocean Shores (Open sores)?

Try glueing outdoor carpeting to old sneakers or shoes with carpeting side glued to the soles cut out to fit shoe shape. The rubber backing will grip pretty well until it wears off(which is pretty quick on those rocks!) and once it does you will have the best gripping surfaces you've ever used. Contact cement on both bottom of shoes and carpeting, do it outdoors as fumes are brutal, let sit for 5 or 10 minutes before attaching, let cure 24 hours. This will increase safety and speed getting out there. This works very well on river shoes as well, but don't know the legalities of using in rivers with possible spreading of invasive species between rivers and felt soles coming under fire. Wow, nice haul of black rockfish! Looksl ike you have the jetty down. How much gear did you go thru?

Motoboat- unfortunately I have not had much luck on the Ocean Shores jetty for rockfish- big swells/waves and shallower water. Seems more suited to surf perch but if any0one has any secrets for the Ocean shores jetty, I am all ears! Ocean Shores is a decent drive from Westport and vice versa (think it is approx an hour as I recall).

Thanks all! Bob R- that is great advice, thank you! I'll give it a try when my sneakers get a little more beatup. Knota- I did really well gear-wise. I fished three spots, only one was very snaggy. I lost 6-8 jigheads total (probably my least lost ever). MotoBoar- Ditto to what Knota said. I've never done any good from the Ocean Shores jetty, and it is about an hour from Westport to Ocean Shores. There used to be a ferry between the two in summer, but I think it went under (uh, not literally).
