JoAnn surprised the heck out of me this morning when she came into my office at 9am and said “let’s go fishing”. At 6am she had said no because it was raining, but the weather changed and so did her mind. So it was off to Shilshole and a shot at the coho.

We launched and had gear in the water by 10:45. I decided to concentrate around the green can at Meadow Point, and over the next hour we saw several caught. Our turn came at 11:45 as the rigger set to 56 feet got hit. The coho was hooked well and in a few minutes we had fish #1 in the boat. Gear was a large green flasher and magnum green glow hoochie, with herring strip.

We fished this area for another hour or and then made the long troll to West Point. Nothing much was happening at West Point until we saw another boat catch a couple in quick successions. And again, our turn came right after, at 57 feet on the rigger, same set up. This one JoAnn successfully brought into the boat. This was around 2:45pm. BTW, after slow trolling for sockeye it was very weird to be running 2.6-3.2 mph for coho!

We fished until 4pm and trolled back to Shilshole. No more action and the wind came up so it was time to leave. I’m pretty happy with two middle of the day fish, both in the 6-7 pound range.
