Dear old Dad was interested in Coho fishing today. We head out but not super early. Had fish in the smoker, fish air drying, some in brine, and still more waiting to start the brinning process. Tarp was on the boat Sunday night for the foretasted Monday rain. So that had to come off too.

Anyway, dear old Dad and I launch at Shilshole @ 8:40am.One of our lines down @ 8:50. Dad is putting his rod together, installing the reel, hand him a flasher and say "got one!" . It was 4minutes since we started. Dad says "Already!". Landed and basking in ice. Weight was 6lb-10oz. 30ft of cable in 65ft of water. First time at that depth and length of cable out, late in the day. Green flasher with green hoochie. Wiffee's pole!

Very windy from the time we launched. White caps with wind waves 1-3 and occasionally 4ft. It isn't pleasant but make the best of it by trying to not head directly into the wind and waves, but quarter instead. Seemed to work good.

Second strike comes on a red flasher/ white glow hoochie. My dads turn to reel one in. This fish is taking line, every time some is given back. Halfway to the boat dad stops reeling, then starts reeling after a brief moment of apparent relaxation. Fish is gone, his gear comes in with the hooks wrapped around the flasher. The fish having quicker reflexes than dad. Fish wins the battle. i feel bad for him. Acted like a nice sized fish

Wind is worsening. Waves following suit. We take a left at the Meadow point can. In 200ft of water my gear is up for a look see. Shaker is found to be hitchhiking on my rear hook. Safely released. Glance over at the Fish Finder. Right there on the screen is a fish at 43ft, followed by a mini bait ball, and another fish trailing the bait ball at 56ft. I send the ball down fast!. Stop the cable at 63ft. load rod, but before rod is loaded, I get bit! Line stripped from the clip, I keep reeling line while pole is in the holder trying to catch up to the fish. I never do. So, pick up the rod and reel until the fish is felt.

"Got one". I exclaim. Fish in the net at 12:00 noon. This is my second fish. I bribe dad into going in and calling it a "rough, white capping" day. By offering either of my fish for him to take home. He gladly accepted the offer. I had more smoking and processing of 10 Salmon left to do. Plus I didn't crawl into bead until 1:20am, processing smoked Salmon, and up by 6:30 to get a early start on those fish. So, I could come home around noon to the smoked fish, assembly line.

Fish checker mentioned the 2 fish we caught today were bigger than the average for the day.

A good day on the water, with dear old Dad.
