I had a few meeting cancellations so boat in tow I hit the road for the launch in Everett. I planned to fish Shipwreck for a couple hours then head home and work the rest of the afternoon. Arriving at the ramp at 6:00 I found that I was not the only one with the idea. The ramp was seriously busy. Even so, the wait to get in the water was a short one and I was underway by 6:30. I rounded the corner at Mukilteo around 7:00 and pulled the throttle back shortly thereafter. The low tide wasn’t until 9:30 or so my plan was to head south with the outgoing tide and pull the plug on the trip at the low slack. I was fishing solo and only running one rod. I went with a green and red 11” flasher and an off-white candlefish hoochie. The business end of things was running 32” behind the flasher and tipped with a herring strip. While running the downrigger down to 60’ the clip breaks loose and it was fish on. A nice start to a busy morning, a few minutes later I was releasing a 5 or 6 pound coho. It was an epic morning with multiple hookups and two plus hours of nonstop action. Fishing between 60 and 90’ of cable at approximately 3.0 mph I brought 17 fish to the boat keeping two 10 pound coho while safely releasing the others. After a sleigh ride of a fight I also lost a fish to a seal. You need to get out on the water; these are the GOOD OLD DAYS! The morning was incredible fishing in spite of having to work this afternoon.
