I almost was talked out of hitting the Sound today as I was told the bite had slowed down quite a bit. I met my fishing partner at Shilshole at about 6:30 and waited in line to launch. Doesn’t anyone work weekdays anymore? The weather was overcast and damp which persisted throughout the day. We caught the major tide exchange a few hours into its run trying to fill the Sound back up with water. Headed well north of the green can and set up our troll southbound with the standard fare that had been catching fish this season. I could tell that the bite was off as there weren’t too many nets being deployed. The area seemed to be infested with shakers and they were all over the water column. Hoochies weren’t cutting it and spoons seemed to draw the shakers in even more so. I switched one rod over to a Brad’s mini cutplug loaded with a slice of herring and after a short time we brought our first coho to the boat. That was enough to convince me to change out the other gear in favor of a standard sized Brad’s cutplug rig. After that, the action was fairly steady and we limited about an hour later. Large fish of the day was a few ounces shy of 8lbs and the smallest kept was right at 5lbs. We did also release a legal sized blackmouth that also nailed a Brad’s. All of our coho came between 40’ and 60’ down and we targeted the 300’ to 500’ line outside of Shilshole the entire time.

what's with the black tape on the flashers? I have seen them on the new ones in the store but don[t really need any more flashers but was wondering what it was all about
Nice job! I was going to head up to the Skykomish tomorrow but may just have to take the boat out one more time

I had the same issue at Redondo this week and couldn't even keep the shakers off my cut plugs too!

Yes, I want to hear G's comments on the black tape as well.. I am thinking that it is just something to use for contrast.. something to breakup the color/image of the flasher. In a rotating flasher it would sort of be a "Busier" looking item rotating in the water.

It's just eletrical tape that I added for a bit of contrast. No need to buy more gear or spend a bunch on special tapes, electrician's tape works just fine.

Nice catch G. Great report and good idea on the electrical tape.
