Planned on heading to seiku today but heard great reports about P.A. so saved us a couple hrs of driving and tried a new fishery. Got on the water around 7am. Headed east out of the habor and worked that area for a couple areas all over. Never had been there before and not many boats out so I was perplexed on where to fish. So I moved towards some mapped out spots I found online and on the way seen a couple guys amidst some birds and hit it up. Instantly two fish on back to back and then nothing for an hour. So we moved on and found the birds again. There we found a double header within minutes. Then nothing again. So we moved out to deeper water close to the canadian border line and hit fish five and six just before two pm for our limits. Hit fish at 50' early in 200' of water then ended at 140' in 450' of water. Five silvers and one chinook. All silvers hit cured herring and the chinook took my spoon/hoochie combo. All behind echip flashers. Great area and would have probably limited earlier had we known where to go. Weather was great too. Fish ranged from 6-8lbs I think.

Nice! I'm envious! Could you tell if they were headed down this way!?

Lol. How could I tell? From what I have heard, it was super hot in seiku. Then it became super hot in port Angeles. Checking the fish checker reports, close to 75% of fisherman were limiting last weekend at both places. That's just what was reported and we are talking hundreds of people and hundreds of cohos and a few chinook. I do think they are headed this way if not already here. I also think this rain will fill the sound with hungry salmon devouring bait getting ready to head upriver. I forgot to mention in my report that they were devouring schools of baitfish. That's why we tracked the birds. I trolled through a spot that was literally filled with scales and guts and a few fish heads and in the bright sunlight, it glittered like crazy. I have never seen that before in such a massive amount. We did not hit a fish in that spot though which was weird but as soon as we followed those birds to the next spot, fish on! They are out there feeding now but no telling where till people get out there and look and report. Port Angeles was worth the run though. But I'm looking back to Elliot Bay and west point next time I get out. Hoping for the lights out feeding frenzy I have seen in these conditions years ago.

Also, one of the fish we caught had a small baitfish in it's mouth. Not sure if it was a tiny herring which it looked like. Or actually a candlefish. I'm not a pro on bait identification but it was about the size of a coho killer spoon which I here is what to use when they are feeding on candlefish. I just read that though and never actually used one that day.

Is nobody else fishing the salt around here? Reports anyone?
