I went halibut fishing in Freshwater Bay for about an hour and a half Friday evening (7-8:30 pm), and three hours Saturday morning (7-10 am). No luck. Not sure what the deal was, but I lost two set-ups to snags Saturday-- it's so feature-less where I fish (300-425 feet) I've never lost a set-up before. Made for an early day for me.
Talking to other people it did seems like halibut fishing was off to a better start this year than last. It seemed like about 1-in-3 boats got a 'butt, opposed to lasy year where a fish checker told me it was more like 1-in-6. I saw about a 50-pounder's carcass at the launch.
Next time I'll bring more than two three+ pound weights! Oy.
