I fish area 5 a lot this time of year throughout October. There's always silvers trickeling in, later in the summer and fall is when they begin to get a lot bigger. That's seems to be the general trend

7/10/2013 2:12:00 PMSaNFiShOn...Next time you are out trolling for salmon, just let your gear get anywhere near the bottom and I'm sure you can catch all the flounder you want. Seriously, though, if you want to catch flounders, just drop a small hook with some squid (or even a small rubber worm with scent) down to the bottom in the sandy areas. I'm not sure what depth they hold at now, but I assume it's much shallower than the 90-100 ft. they hold at in April when I catch them for Ling Cod bait. Limit is 10 per person, and it won't take long to catch your limit.

7/10/2013 7:55:00 PMJungle Jim...thanks for the tips. I caught a lot flounders before with nightcrawlers but most of them are small. Gonna try some squid and rubber worms next time. I thought the limit was 15 per person too. Thanks for letting me know.

7/11/2013 12:49:00 PMnever fished flounder much but we had a run of starry flounder hit the port angeles harbor about 6 years ago,they averaged 10# but got several 15#.They were a blast on light gear,one trip my partner got a 35# lingcod fishing in about 18 ft of water on a trout rod with 10# test line,we got it in the boat.

7/12/2013 12:32:00 PMsunfighter: Starry Flounders are BAD ASS! I hooked one when I was a kid and it kicked my butt. They are more like a halibut than a flounder when it comes to fighting. It would be awesome to get into a batch of 10# to 15# starrys. That's something you'll probably remember for the rest of your life.
