After reading Mr. Kemp's report on his success at West Medical Lake this summer, I felt I must confirm his report. I too, had tremendous results fishing this lake during the 2001 season. I would typically land 12-20 trout per outing. I use a 5/6 weight rod with a full sink line and a size 12 bugger earlier in the year and a damsel fly nymph when it got a bit warmer. I caught very large fish at all times of the year during all sorts of weather conditions. During a rain storm the change in pressure can bring about a feeding change and it sometimes seems the old tales of rain and large fish are all true. Truth is, if you present the right offering in the right way at the right depth you stand a better than average chance of nailing a "LUNKER". I landed three, two plus pound browns in the shallow weed beds in the middle of August. It had cooled considerably from the 90's reached earlier in the day and I slow trolled a damsel nymph along the depths adjacent to a weed bed as !
slowly as possible with the occasional strip or twitch to make it interesting. Knowing what to fish and how to fish it and what location to present your offering is the key to catching fish in any condition. I have stuck closely to this philosophy everywhere I visit and have concluded that be it rain, wind or sunshine, I will fish hard and be successful. Remember to always catch and release.
