First trip of the season. Fish on!
Fished from the beach from 5am-7am this morning on the incoming tide mainly casting a 2.5" Buzz Bomb. Absolutely a beautiful morning. Started rough with a massive rats nest about four cast in, but was able to cut it off without losing too much line, then my 2" Buzz Bomb seemed to have a burr inside that was catching the line and fraying it, so had to retie a couple times before things smoothed out with a new lure. First hit came at 5:15.....a 12" flounder....Not what I was expecting. I was reeling in the cast immediately following that little guy and about 10 feet out from me the lure gets hit. Missed the hook set and watched the fish zip through the shallows. Definitely a salmon. A few other fishermen started showing up around this time and one of them only had about five casts in and lands the first Pink of the morning. Turned out to be his first time fishing for Pinks. He was pretty excited. Shortly after that I hooked one and landed it. As soon as I'd checked that one off and resumed fishing, the guy next to me hooked up with one, lost it, and then hooked another and lost that one too. Shortly after that I hooked another that shortly came unbuttoned. Things slowed down after that. Saw one more landed way down the beach, but after that I didn't see any other action. That all went down between 5:15 and about 5:50. Had to leave at 7am, so wonder how the rest of the morning went. Total of about eight guys fishing this morning. Saw about 12 boats troll through and around the area, but didn't see a whole lot going on for them either.
