So yesterday I stopped by Browns point as I was only there a couple of times 2 years ago to see what was shaking and was surprised to find a parking spot at 4pm in front of the fence so pulled on my waders over my suit and make the trek down to the beach. Saw a guy landing one with his kid up north and another with 2 on a stringer so looked promising so had on Toni's pink jig with the trailer sickle hook and took some cast. Notice how cool the water was but soon realized that I had a pretty bad leak in my waders and my left leg was getting soaked! I lasted about an hour and then got some calls so had to head back to the truck @ 5pm and figured these waders had seen their last days as I was soaked.

So on to today's report~ I put chinook because that is really what I was targeting when we launched at Redondo at 4:45. Was about the 10th boat in and started the Nookie troll around Redondo but no action anywhere. Lots and lots of seaweed and jelly fish to tend with and by 7:30 a wall of clouds and wind had moved in over us from Tacoma so it got a bit tough to fish. I asked my salmon buddy Stano if he wanted to go anchor up and throw some jigs at any passing pinks and he said sure! so we motored over to about 15 feet of water and pretty soon was joined by about 20 other boats! haha

We had brought our spin casters so broke those out and started casting towards shore with one rod having a 2" pink buzz bomb with a soft bead and hootchie over the hook and the other with one of Toni's pink jigs I picked up at the sportsman show both with shrimp/krill scent. After about 10 casts I saw a school passing through and threw my jig ahead of them and wham! Fish on!! Typical pink with many runs and not wanting to have anything to do with the net we finally managed to get it in the boat. That was it though as we saw about 2 more fish caught before realizing we should head back before all these other boats did too and was able to get the boat right out without a traffic jam and called it a day. May hit the beach in the AM but have a commitment for most of tomorrow after 9am so will see if I can get out after that.

Sweet! You seem to be adaptable to all waters. So, the Tin cup is coming over to ply the waters of the Columbia! The top on your boat will be a great place to hide from our scorching heat. I wish you well.

thanks guys! Afk or anyone else I could use any kind of advise on fishing the Brewster pool derby next weekend! I will have my brother-in-law and his 10 year old son on board and will be in it all 3 days. Have never fished there before so any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Okay, here's the Brewster pool story. I've fished that pool now for years. The past few years have been AWESOME! I just got home the other day from a 3 day trip. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. We don't know where these fish are. However, my buddy did land a 25lb king that he had to let go because it was wild. The Sockeye are tiny. I mean, small teenie weenie this year. I don't know what it is. All the boats that we saw catching seriously looked like they were 14" dinks. The thermal barrier is intense this year. Surface temp on the bubble was 73 degrees at 9am last weekend. The counts are way down from years past. I think this year is a bust for the Brewster pool. My brother and his friend on his boat and me and my buddy on mine put in 64 hours of fishing between the 4 of us and came away with nothing but a Johnny Walker buzz this year.
If you go, make sure your coon shrimp is fresh and clean. If you fish for kings, make sure you use the green herring (about 4-5" in length). However, if you're concerned with not cutting your herring correctly, get a can of Tuna (in OIL, not water), a couple of Superbaits and stuff your Superbait with the tuna. Superbait is awesome because you're always fishing. Sockeye are anywhere (from years past) from 10-30 feet deep. Kings are 20-40' deep.

Not trying to be a downer Salmonbarry, just honest. Last week's bust cost me $300 lol I could have gone out of Redondo for $25 (gas and launch included)

Thanks Paintermott! Unfortunately we are committed as my brother-in-law has already purchased derby tickets are reserved a spot for 3 days so was wondering if it is that slow should take a run to Rufus during the day for tripoids? Great info though, I appreciate it!

yeah no problem. head for the blue pump pipe downriver of the bubble and start trolling. Stay about 50' off the shore. Good luck. BTW, there's a free launch on the Okanogan river. Once you past the bubble- look to the right on the road and you'll see all the boats- take the next left. Go down a mile and you'll see a launch. Go past the launch and the road turns to gravel. There'll be a a place to turn around. Come back and launch there. The launch at Pateros is like $10. This one is free and actually a good launch. When you head out the Okanogan, stay mid channel and don't "haul ass". There's tons of deadheads floating in the water and weeds at times and you don't want your prop finding them for you- have someone looking out over the bow for you. It's not bad but sometimes can catch you off guard. Once you see the bridge, keep center and head out- you're clear.
Also, if you get skunked, head up to Omak lake for cutties- need a tribal license though
