Knowing you are not supposed to fish the day before a derby, I was reluctant to go out today but felt at least I could test the waters and make sure the boat was running good enough to deal with the derby madness Saturday.

Had a hell of day Thursday at work preparing to take off today so didn't get home from work until after 8pm so scrambled to get everything ready for the AM. Woke up at 4am and promptly fell back asleep until I got a call from my fishing partner wondering where I was! Yikes, it was 5:10! We raced to Pt. Defiance and were fishing by 6:15 so not bad and started our troll along the clay banks and then back across the ferry line to Owen's beach. Was running an Irish cream tailwagger on one and the same in a coho killer on the other. Not a bump, hit, shaker, nothing! Worked it over pretty good and didn't see a net fly but people passed us said they had fish.

Worked through tide change with the same results so at 10:30 decided to motor over to Dash point and Browns to chase some pinks. Half way across ran into a poor soul who was dead in the water and trying to paddle with one oar back to the Point Defiance launch against a pretty good south wind and strong tide. We circled around and threw him a rope and towed him back to safety. Once we had him safely back to the boat launch started back across but now it was close to 11:30 so went to Dash but didn't see a lot of action there so made our way to Browns point and the people on the north side of the lighthouse on the beach were into some fish but nothing for us boat guys!! haha

Anyway, quit about 1pm and was actually glad I didn't catch a big king today so my chances in the derby tomorrow are pretty good I guess!! haha
