Got family out from Nebraska, so took a daytrip for crab. Launched out of ShilShole about 10am, fog was just starting to burn off and it was looking to be a great day. Ran over to Murden Cove off Bainbridge Island and dropped the pots in 75' of water at about 11am, then we headed south to Blake Island for a picnic lunch. We were able to squeeze into a spot on the dock so we didn't need to beach the boat and spent a couple hours on the island eating lunch and walking around.
About 2 we decided to head back, between the two pots we had about 30 crab total only 1 of wich was female. Out of that we kept the 5 largest dungees (threw 3 keepers back) and 3 Rock Crab.
From there we headed back to Shilshole and home for crab and beers. Fun day was had by all.

See any deer on Blake Island? That is one of my favorite spots to boat to.

Yeah, there were three there in amongst the picnic tables and a bunch of raccoons running around.

Were many of the crabs in the pot, of soft shell? It seems, half of all the legal males in the pot are soft shell. I visited Pleasant Harbour, over in Hood Canal for a couple of days. Saw many soft shell crabs kept when at the cleaning station. Those that kept them claimed they were not familiar with the term "soft shell". I showed them, but who knows if it did any good.

I was really amazed MotoBoat, Only 1 female in the whole bunch and none were soft-shell (ok, let me qualify that - out of the ones that were legal size none of them were softshell). There were also no starfish or flounder in the pots, seems like there is always a star or two.

Do I wish that was the case, the few times I crab.............LOL! Must be that I am crabbing where the crabs are constantly being culled. I have noticed, the more white the legs, the closer the crabs are to being soft shell. How are you liking the boat? Seems to be very roomy indeed. How long is your boat?
