Fished the south end of MA7 on Saturday. Launched from Keystone at 5:30a and were out to our target location at 6:30. Foggy ride on the way out, but overcast, clear, and calm west of Smith Island. In the first half hour of having gear in the water we brought two Kings to the boat. The first was a small hatchery that was an inch too short, so let it go. The second was a wild that was plenty large and probably about 10+ lbs. A partner convinced us that wild King retention was not allowed, so we released it only to find later that we could have kept it. Always have to have a story such as that to keep the fishing trip interesting. After that we got into some Pinks and although we had multiple hooksups, even a double, we we were only able to get one in the boat. About 7:45 some friends fishing near by came over to tell us they'd got their limit of two Kings and two Coho for the boat, so were headed in to shore to fill out the limit of Pinks (this is when we learned our King mistake). Well, we stuck it out until 3pm. Hooked and lost many unseens, boated a couple more pinks, hooked and released one dogfish, one Ling, one flounder, and one very small wild Coho before calling it a day and heading in. Total take for the day was 3 Pinks for three anglers, so a dismal return, but the fair action on the lines kept the day interesting and we all had a good time regardless. Conditions on the water were awesome, so still enjoyed the trip.
Sorry, no pics. Too busy either driving, pulling gear, or netting to dig the camera out. Only three boats out there when we started the day, but about eight during the busiest time and seems like we were always getting bunched up despite our best efforts.
