I was in Westport Thursday night thru Saturday night. Went Razor clamming at Grayland Thursday (opener), Friday, and Saturday night. Thursday night the clamming was excellent. Typical twin harbors sized clams-- mid-sized, no real small ones; no mossbacks either. It was a beautiful night-- I camped at the state park and slept under the stars for the first time in along time. I could hardly sleep the sky was so clear.

I hit the south jetty around 7 am Saturday morning. I caught and released 4 or 5 small black rockfish, and kept one midsized one. By 10:00 or so a front moved in, and the bite turned off. The harbor was pretty turbulent. Clamming was rough that night given the hard pounding surf. Some friends met me at the beach that had never clammed before. Between the tough digging conditions, them showing up after the tide change, and VERY poor lighting, we didn't well-- maybe got 8 between 3 of us.

Saturday morning we hit the jetty again from only about 8-10. One of my friends caught a nice kelp greenling, but that was it. Went crabbing at the docks after that-- a lot of little ones but no keepers. Clamming again that evening was excellent. 15-minute limits, if you wanted to rush things. The water was great too all weekend-- bare feet and shorts over waders for sure!
