Launched out of Everett at 6:30 am and motored just south of the Mukilteo ferry. Very rare fall day where there was absolutely no fog and no condensation inside the boat. Lines in the water by 7:15 and trolled south to the shipwreck. No action for the first hour or so and then back to back tack downs where the fish would pop to the surface give a couple of head shakes and both gone. Then we hook a couple of shakers and then silence for the next hour. Finally around 11am we boat our first and only fish, a 6-7 lb. Coho hen. The only fish as well as the other take downs all went for a Gibbs red racer flasher with a 3" green grand slam bucktail tipped with fire brined herring strips. 60-90 ft of cable on the DR. We tried black hot spot flasher with black and white Ace Hi-Fly, no luck. We tried purple haze Hot Spot with purple Ace Hi-Fly, no luck. I didn't see any one catching fish and I talked to one boat at 10am that had caught one. Other than than, it seemed to be a slow day. We then decide to call it a day for fishing around 11:30. Water was flat and we see the sun shining north so we decided to head to Saratoga Pt. to drop some crab pots. This place was a go to place for me over the summer always scoring limits of monster sized crabs. This day, however was not going to be one of those days. The entire place was filled with hundreds of commercial pots. We got 5 but worked hard to get them. Fishing was slow and crabbing took work but the flat water and sun made for an awesome day.

As I posted on Thursday afternoon, I had pretty much the same day. I started about 45 min later at the same spot and pulled the lines at 10:30, hooked two fish (not counting one shaker) and put one in the boat. The second fish got into the downrigger cable and broke a split ring at the last minute...no more split rings on my swivels! Stupid mistake...I spool with 25# Ande mono, my hoochie leaders are 50# Berkley Big Game, and for some bonehead reason I built a few leaders with split ring swivels. The swivels are ball bearing models, but have split rings instead of welded rings. Time to re-tie before Blackmouth fishing!

Thanks for the report. I've got a problem with one of my Scotty Downriggers, as in it doesn't want to work. So until it gets fixed I prob wont be going out. There are still fresh fish coming in, I think, just not as many. Kind of surprising. The 5 Silvers we got this week, all had small egg skeins and milt sacks and very loose scales which makes me think they are pretty fresh and not quite ready to hit the rivers. Couple weeks ago we got fish with well developed skeins and sacks and the scales were so tight I had to use a scraper.

We were out there Thursday also. Only got 2, but one was a 13# buck. Went out on Friday with very heavy fog so it took over 45 minutes to get from Everett to past the ferry lane. No bites until about 1:00 then got 2, each around 6#.

What's going on with the Scotty BARCHASER? I had problems with mine after 25 years and Scotty took care of me..awesome!

I typically do ok fishing for silvers but after reading other people's posts, I'm starting to think I'm doing something wrong. All the silvers I've ever caught were all cookie cutter 6#'s. I'm wondering if there is a correlation with my trolling techniques and the size of fish I catch. I've always been taught to tie my hootchies about 2.5 times the length of the flasher. That's on the short end of the recommended length. Also, I do not have a trolling motor and can't troll slower than 3 mph. I'm starting to think the short leader and the fast troll is too aggressive for the larger silvers. Anyone have any experience with this?
