3/20/2014 10:54:00 AMYou need to go farther out near the end of the jetty to get into better ling fishing. Out to 50 FOW near the rock garden.
At least you didn't get skunked.

Fished the south jetty most of the day. It was my first time and I had my usual fishing buddy with me. Saw maybe 10 other guys throughout the day and nobody, including us hit any lings. I did however catch a cabezon and black sea bass. Both were caught on a 1 oz jig head with 6 inch Gulp grub in new penny color. There was a pretty large tidal shift throughout the day. 10 feet, I believe. That made for some interesting currents along the jetty. Next time I will also have some 2 and 3 oz jig heads with me because 1 oz was drifting all over the place. We were about halfway out on the jetty. Going further out next time.
Fishing is not red hot out there. Park ranger and the more experienced guys confirmed that it's been slow. But I'm gonna try again and make some adjustments and hopefully have better results next time.
All in all it was a fun day. I look forward to trying again. That's what's so fun about the ocean, you never know what you'll pull in!
