2 of 2. Got up at 4am to go find our halibut. My buddy's dad joined us, so the three of us headed to Cornet Bay to launch and meet up with a friend who was also launching there. Of course the weather forecast for Saturday deteriorated overnight, so now it was slightly windy and getting worse. Thought we might be able to make it till noon at least, so launched our craft with the masses and headed out of port about 5:30a. The water was rough, but tolerable. We intended to head to Eastern, but after the pounding we took getting to Smith Island we truncated our trip and stuck to Smith/Partridge. We dropped a couple shrimp pots on the NW side of Partridge Bank and proceeded to drift our gear. The waves/rollers were heavy enough to make us limit our lines to two instead of our intended three. We fished for about an hour before we decided the water was getting to be a bit much for us. We went to retrieve the shrimp pots only to find that the floats were no where to be seen. Imagine they were submerged with the current, so after a number of fruitless passes we headed for port. As we passed below Smith Island the water conditions improved, so we stopped and tried a few drifts with our halibut gear through some spots along the island's breaks. Nothing. Got back to the launch about 10am. The wind continued to build from there, so glad we quit when we did. No fish and two pots down. Thought this year was going to be the year to finally hook one of those fat flatties, but no such luck. Maybe next year.
