Had a great time halibut fishing out of Westport on a charter boat. Headed north about 28-29 miles and joined up with about 25 other boats. Fished in 650-700 feet and caught our boats limit (14) in about an hour and a half. Mine was about 25 pounds, small fish for a halibut I think, but that was the average for everyone at this area. My girlfriend landed one about 35 pounds and it was probably the biggest on the boat. Back at the dock a 68 pounder won the day's derby, so I guess we did pretty good. We went for lingcod and stopped at about 4 different spots before we had 22 fish, 8 short of the boats limit. Highlight was when a woman with us thought she was snagged and reeled in a badly torn up sea bass. The deckhand advised her to promptly send it back down and sure enough, the lingcod grabbed it again. She brought it up and the cod weighed a nice 26 pounds. The day was absolutely gorgeous and we learned it was the last day of the season, as halibut fishing had closed early this year. Great charter, great captain and crew.
