Well since i worked memorial day I got my days off switch. Got off work yesterday and called up my cuzzin and losaturn to see if they wanted to hit lake desire in the Am for a quick limit of those Landlocked Hatchery Steelhead. But instead Lo says razors are open back up again and the weather suppose to be nice. So off we go at 4 am. got to the beach around 6ish. geared up and started clamming. We were more anxious to fish then to clam. so We started digging around 7am and finished around 730. since the tide wasnt to far out yet, the clams where puny. Got back to the car, necks off, cut up some storebought 41/50 shrimp. fishing gear set up and back out we went. was 8am and the tide had gone down quite a bit more. To where the reallly big shows where showing. O well. 9oclock comes around no bite yet. then a little nibble. This perch was about 3 inches long, took the bottom hooks clam neck. kept it anyways because it was starting to feel like a slow day. then half an hour later walking along the beach casting to every break that looks promising and finally hooked up again. in the bag. casted back out, and it was like every time it hit the water, we'll get a bite. Then it slowed again. So we start combing the beach again. and hit another school. I left with my 12, Lo with his, and cuzzin with 10. A good day out on the water, or in the water. Razors are open til sunday, and suppose to be the last dig til the fall. Todays tide was -1.2 I believe. sat and sun will be -.8 or so. today will probably be my last trip til next year or fall. we'll see how salmon season goes. Don't feel like driving for 5 hours in one day, more so in a week esp with the 4 dollar gas now. OUCH.
All in all a good clamming and redtail season. Good luck

I love surf perch. But the only place I have caught them is off the jetty, and that means alot of hangups on the big rock. I wish I knew more about how to read the surf where the fish are most likely holding. I've been told you look for areas where there is flatter water inside the breakers, meaning that area is deeper. I don't know. We go to Ocean Shores at least a couple times a year. And I would much rather be fishing than following my wife around in the shops.

I have a couple old posts from last year on WA lakes with some info if you want to check them. I haven't gone yet this year due to the trout bite being hot. I seem to catch more and bigger redtails during mid to late summer. Main thing really is hitting it on a day that has SMALL waves and very little wind. Big schools will come in closer than you think and I've caught them regardless of low/high tide. They are a great eating fish for the pan! BTW, if the water is brown and foamy due to offshore pollution, don't even try. Tight lines, fellas! I'm on it as soon as the conditions dictate...
