My inlaws are in town from Mexico City and after 2 days of watching the Blue Angels (from land) they wanted to go for a boat ride. They are not boat people so everything was totally new for them. We decided to go get some crab for dinner. Launched out of Shilshole about 1pm and ran across to Murden Cove. Stopped the boat and was just getting the pots ready when a big ol Humpback surfaced about 20 yards behind the boat. Awesome site - lived here all my life and this is the 1st whale I've seen in Puget Sound! It was headed north, surfaced again about 100 yards away for a breath then gave us a tail wave about 200 yards away and gone.
We dropped 3 pots in about 80' of water then just shut down, hung out in the cove and enjoyed the day and scenery. We soaked them for about an hour and pulled 7 keeper Dungies and 6 keeper Red Rocks.
By the time we got the pots in and everything secured the afternoon wind was picking up so it was time to head back across. The ride back was a little bumpy with a few white caps along the way, but we weren't in a hurry so just poked along. Got back to the ramp about 5pm.

When the fish counter come over to see if we were fishing I asked how the day was, said they recorded about 60 boats and 20 fish for the day.
