We heard Westport is hot right now. So we decided to try it out. We went to the Westport Jetty. We didnt go out FAR, just near the entrance. So we tried jigging with grub but we keep snagging into rocks. My dad tried using bobbers with a fairly small sized hook and caught some big perch. For some reason these wernt Red-Tail surf perch but they were black. about 15 inches. We released it (Catch and released 4). They put a decent fight. My brother tried a spoon and hooked into a Chinook Salmon and lost it....TWICE!!! I was laughing so hard. My dad lost 1 as well. My dad was using squid tentacles and a small hook so thats why he lost it, couldnt set the hook. I caught a Black Rockfish, good keeper size!! I caught a Cabezon (kept), an undersized Lingcod (released), a sea-bass, released. and a bunch of GREENLINGS!! they fight HARD! So much fun. We were kinda bummed we lost the salmon. It was a great day on the jettys.
About the Jetty, I advise you NOT to go when it in rainings or has rain because the rocks were very dangerous to move through. BRING fly/insect repellent because the flies become SUPER annoying. The jetty is located near Westheaven State Park (Discovery pass required).
