This was my first time fishing a derby day and all in all a good experience. Put the boat in the water at 5:20 at the Edmonds sling. We got the gear ready and had lines in the water at first light. Trolled from Edmonds to the tank farm and back without a strike. Right before the ferry lanes had one on and caught two within 15 minutes of each other at about 7:30. Then went through the tide change with nothing....picked up and went to shipwreck still nothing.... Ended up with two coho that together would have been first place in the derby (4+ lbs gutted). Saw a several fish taken, but it certainly wasn't knock 'em dead action for anyone I saw.
Caught one on purple haze flasher with green spatter squid stuffed with Ace Hi Fly and a herring strip. Other on Red Racer flasher with purple haze squid also stuffed with Ace Hi Fly and herring strip. We were in 450 feet of water with 40 feet and 60 feet on the downrigger. Trolling fast--3.5mph+
