Wow, I would never have expected today's fishing outcome. JoAnn and I launched at 7am out of Edmonds. Since it was an outgoing tide I decided to start us down at the oil docks and run north with the tide (LT 10:40am). It was a big tide swing today so I figured hopeful AM bite and then an active slack tide bite. Wrong.

We fished two rods off downriggers, varying depths from 50 to 90 feet deep. Tried 8" and 11" flashers, magnum hoochies in glow green and glow white, and herring strips. The usual gear, and trolling speeds 3-3.5mph. Right off the bat we hooked into a nice fish at 50 feet deep that took line and ran like a freight train. Pretty obvious what we had and after a nice fight gently slid the net under the fish in order to remove the hooks and revieve the fish without man-handling the king. I would estimate based on looks and fight the fish to be around 15 pounds. Released and off he swam. "Pretty nice fish to start" I said. Unfortunately, that was it for the morning. We got one 12" shaker and a couple light hits that didn't hook up, and then the morning was over. I was marking fish and made adjustments to my DR depths to try to get them to bite, but it was a no go.

Stopped fishing at 11:20am. The slack tide was a bust. I didn't see a net wave nor hear of anyone catching a fish today. I'm sure there were some others caught, but pretty surprising lack of success. I guess we should have headed out to the Bar after all...

The Bar was a bust today as well. Hooked one fish and lost it to a seal, that was it, nothing else except rough choppy water.

thanks, I bailed on the bar because JoAnn was with me so I try to find calmer waters. Just one of those days I guess.

My wife and I fished Sunday and picked up 3 fish in 3-4 # range. First one just south of Mukilteo Ferry. Second fish popped down near Shipwreck and Third fish was over on East side of Possession just south of the point on Whidbey. Two fish on Coho Killer, One on Green Hoochie. 35' - 50' deep.

Mike-is your main motor an older Evinrude? My 1990 115HP recently blew up and the cover on it looked just like your picture.

yes, the boat is a 92 so that would be about right. I'm resigned to the motor dying one of these days and having to decide - new boat or just re-power. My boat has served us so well. It's showing it's age but as far as I can tell has no serious structural issues. And it's perfect for my wife and I.
