Got to Shilshole ramp about 0630 and it was somewhat of a zoo. Boat in the water around 0715 and fishing around 0730. Incoming tide until 0845 so ran north a mile or so and trolled southbound in the current seams.

Started out with delta diver and brined herring with 75' of line out in the prop wash. This produced shaker #1 for the day and nothing more. Next I switched out to the UV red racer and Irish flag coho killer combo fished at about 90'. This produced shaker #2. It was getting close to the tide change and I was a little shallower than I wanted to be as I approached West Point so I headed westbound out to around 190' of water. Went through current rip and picked up some weeds. Attempted to get the gear loose from the downrigger to clear it and couldn't get it to pop loose. Figured I'd have to crank the downrigger up and release it manually. Gave it a couple of cranks and it popped loose - fish on! Played it to the boat and into the net. First guest of the day was about a 5 pound hatchery female. Unfortunately the cheap hook on the coho killer broker as I attempted to remove it from the fish so I lost precious time during the tide change replacing the hook.

Trolled south through the tide change then came back northbound with the outgoing tide. Trolled all the way up past the oil tanks with nothing more to show for the effort than another shaker or two and a stray cutthroat.

Fishing was definitiely better early while there was some sun and on the incoming tide. Got really socked in around mid-morning. Marked loads of fish on the northbound troll, just couldn't convice them to bite. In addition to rotating gear mentioned above also gave the purple haze flasher/squid combo with herring teaser some time.

Fish checker at Shilshole said about 1.5 - 2 fish per boat so I guess I did alright.

Hi Fish Dawg, Glad you got out and gave us another great report. I'm headed back to the Deschutes, on the Columbia, this weekend with my three sons; should be a hoot and fish will be a bonus.
