Epic Fishing Weekend

Had a Great Time spending with a couple days with my long time friend David Hatch. David is relatively new to fishing so thought I would turn him on to some Coho Fishing in MAs 8.2 and 9 on Friday and some late season Kokanee Fishing on Saturday.

Coho Fishing MA 8.2:
When we launched out of Everett at 5:30 A/M it was dark and the fog thick. Wish I could have taken a picture of the expression on David’s face as I navigated behind the Jetty and cruised 30 minutes to my favorite fishing grounds in visibility of less than 30ft.

At sunrise the fog started to lift a bit and it was game-on. We started off with a couple drive-bys, reset and hooked the first one. After resetting and dealing with a couple shakers, we landed #2. The bite fell off about 9:00 A/M and we headed for the dock.

Both fish were caught just North of Shipwreck, 300 to 400 ft water depth and 53ft down on the wire. We used Chartreuse E-Chip Flashers and Ace Hi-Fly Chartreuse Hoochies with Herring strips.

Kokanee Fishing American Lake:
Sunday we launched at 5:30A/M and David landed the first Kok at 5:45 within two minutes after setting gear. The action was fast and furious up until 9:00 A/M and then the bite dropped off.

We were working on #10, for our boat limit, when at about 11:00 the sky turned dark the rain started rolling in. We landed our 10th fish and were pulling in gear when the wind kicked up and then came the hail along with some lightning.

If that wasn’t enough, we received the Tornado Warning on our Cell Phones which said “Seek Shelter Immediately”. As we started heading for the dock, the driving rain and wind reduced the visibility to almost zero. This was the first time I ever had to use GPS for navigation in the middle of the day. Yep, the ole “Pucker Factor” was about 8.

All fish were caught using my standard “Go-To” gear - RMT Dodgers and Minihoochies. Pink was the color of the day. We used live Maggots and Shoe peg Corn with my secret sauce. All fish were caught between 25 to 28ft on the wire.
