Went out for a few hours in the late afternoon on Saturday, as car troubles kept us from starting earlier. Between 3 fishermen/women, we reeled in 7 lings and 2 copper rockfish in several hours. Most of the lings were around 20", but we kept one healthy (and delicious!) 27 incher. Our depth finder was intermittent, but I'd estimate we were fishing between 20 and 80 feet of water, drifting with the current. The star lures were hefty swimbaits, but we also caught two lings on lead jigs. None on soft plastics with lead head jigs, which is what we've had luck with in past years, so I think we will now be using soft plastic swim baits as our primary lure! Beautiful day on the water, so it was a great afternoon despite only bringing home one fish.

Thanks for the info. I was at a tackle shop last week and a guy was picking up some swim baits for lings. I hadn't heard of that being done before. How do you like to fish them for lings?

@AJFishdude This is my first time trying them. We were a bit ill-prepared for this trip, so we just kinda threw together what tackle we had on board and ended up with basically a mooching jig, with a ~4oz banana weight a couple feet above the swimbait. Leader length didn't seem to matter too much. Just dropped it down to the bottom and jigged while drifting.
