Dropped the crab pots this morning and then trolled humpy hollow for pink salmon. Saw a guy hook up while I was dropping my crab pots in the water so I had high hopes right away. Trolled all the way down past the shipwreck without a bite but saw a few people battling fish. Only saw 1 make it into a net though.

I ran back up to mukilteo to check the crab pots then start trolling again. While searching for my pots I spotted a shredded crab pot float in the water so I went to check it out. Was pretty disappointed to find my name on one of the shredded portions of the float. I only use lead rope so only the float was on the surface. Whoever did this has no excuse other than pure negligence. After pulling up what is now my only crab pot, I find 1 keeper. Put it in the cooler, punched my card and went back to fishing.

Around 10am I hook into my first humpy of the year. After about a 3 minute battle, he comes unhooked right next to the boat. Just not my day I guess. I kept trolling until about 11:30 then called it a day after finding 2 more keepers in my crab pot.

I was surprised at how quiet it was out there today. I expected to see way more boats on the water. I guess Seafair distracted them. Too bad it didn't distract the person who lost my crab pot for me... LOL

Sorry to hear about losing your crab pot. We crab and fish 8-2 north of the Bubble and are careful not to drop our pots where common boat travel is. Rigging a second buoy or white float about 6 or 8 feet off the mainline can save gear if the red & white buoy gets shredded. Switching to stick buoys with red flags makes it easier to find your pots and for boaters to see. Keeping binocs on board doesn't hurt either as poachers and thieves are unfortunately, out there as well.

I dropped my pots off Hat Island and shot over to Whitbey for some fishing. In the middle of the channel there was a float. In about 600 foot of water so I doubted it was on the bottom. Being alone I didnt want to try to fish it out. but it was pretty shredded too.
