Well this report is from Friday but better late than never.
My uncles and dad wanted to take our brand new family fishing boat out to try and find some early schooling pinks. I caught one off te beach this morning and back at the cabin we decided we could take some lunch and try our luck out by Cypress where we had caugh a nice pink earlier in July with our first time using the boat. So we made it out there around 12 as some thin fog banks rolled in from the straight. I set the downriggers near the bottom where we were marking some bait. I made a turn towards land and on of the balls hit the bottom so as I rose it up about ten feet the other rod tripped and it felt hung up on a bunch of kelp on the bottom. After about 10 or 15 seconds of confusion I felt a few head shakes and almost got ripped out the back off the boat. The fish started for a beeline to the surface and when its tail came out of the water my dad and uncles lost it. This was obviously not a pink as the size of its tail was the size oh a house broom. After one botched attempt to met it my dad finally got the big king in the boat. Let the celebration begin, this fish was HUGE. My personal best ever a 25lb chrome chinook right out of the puget sound. Not to mention we (as in my family and I) are newer to trolling, downriggers and the whole deal. That night to top I limited out with two more pinks off the beach at our cabin. What a day I can't wait till the fish are in here thick!
