Went back to North Beach again today, this time with my brother and nephew. We set today as a day to fish as it would have been our dads 75th birthday. When we woke up we found out our grandmother, who was 99 years old, passed away this morning. Both had a hand in teaching us the love of fishing. On to the actual fishing. I arrived at 7am, and within the first hour landed 2 and lost 2 right at the beach. At 8am my brother and nephew showed up. Once I got them set up to fish, my brother quickly landed one, followed by me landing another. My nephew then landed the next 2, his first salmon ever! We fished until 11am. In total between us we landed 6 fish. I personally landed 3, and lost 4. I should have limited. Think I had the drag set a touch too tight. It was odd in that I actually was watching the rest of the beach, and no one else seemed to be doing as well. Seems like most left with that skunk smell on them. I was casting a size 2 buzz bomb, with a very slow retrieve and a slow steady maybe 2-3 foot rod pull. I saw a lot of fairly fast retrieves with some huge wild jerks on the pole. Pinks seem to like a slower, more subtle presentation. Rated this day a 5 due to the consistent, steady action even though I did lose 4.
