Got to the boat mukilteo boat launch shortly after 5am. By the time I got the boat launched and my crab pots in the water, it was almost 6am by the time I started trolling. The water this morning was boiling with humpies. Everywhere you look they were jumping and rolling. I fished with a 2" dipsy diver and only 35 feet of line out. With the tidal current combined with my full size flasher, I couldn't have been fishing more than 15 feet deep. Caught 2 fish fairly quickly then went through a frustrating stretch of nearly 2 hours where I kept hooking fish and losing them. By about 8:30 I wasn't getting any more bites and I was starting think I would be stuck with just the 2 fish for the day. The fish had stopped rolling so I decided to go deeper and let out 100 feet of line. That was the winning ticket as I hooked into 3 more fish and landed 2 of them by 9am.
My crab pots came up fully stuffed, but they were mostly just a little bit too small. I did get 2 keepers though.
The smoke rolling in from the wildfires was spooky this morning. It was clear out early on as I was getting the boat ready, but the smoke rolled in much like a storm front and it was pretty dark out for much of the morning.
