Put on the waders and fished from the beach at Bush Point on Halloween morning, the last day Area 9 was open for Coho for a while. Was very windy and some pretty nasty rain; the ferry ride from Mukilteo was an Adventure! With rain gear and layers, though, I didn't start feeling cold until about noon, when I knocked off for the day; started fishing about 9 am.

Tried some fly fishing with a General Practitioner and a Clouser Minnow type fly, but no takers. Switched back and forth between gear and flies the whole morning. Had brought some Red Label herring to fish under a float, but started out with whatever lure happened to be on my rod.

It was a Gibbs Ironhead 3/5 oz 50/50...kinda like a gigantic Dick Nite 50/50. After a while I caught a 4 - 4/12 lb coho, so I stuck with the Ironhead and never rigged up with the float and whole herring. At the end of the morning before I headed back to warmth of my car's defroster / heater I caught a 6-7 lb Chinook on the Ironhead, too. Unfortunately, area 9 didn't open back up for Chinook for another couple days, so I released the King.

Other fishermen had some luck with Rotators: Chartreuse with pink skirt, white with Green trim, and pink. The guy with the Pink Rotator said he fished it from a float.

A couple guys walked out with some bigger (8 - 10 lb) coho; they caught them on whole herring fished from a float.

All and all a nice morning in the elements! Felt good to catch both a Coho and Chinook from the beach in the same outing. ;-D
