Arrived at Kayak point roughly around 10:00am, tide was coming in pretty fast but not as violently as tide at Mukilteo. Water was very murky, very poor visibility. A Huge tree was stuck under the dock making it impossible to fish a good portion at the end of the dock. We also eventually learned there was alot of other pieces of timber buried under the dock underwater, this led to a couple snags and loss of gear but we've had worse. Started out with heavy barrel weights with various baits (clam, shrimp, worm, squid) at the end casting in all directions we could, only thing biting were the shiner perch. Tried various colors of soft plastics on drop shot rigs as well, again only the shiner perch responded. Halfway through our fishing about 5 or 6 people showed up with crab gear, I asked them if it was open and they all assured me it was part of the winter season, I hadn't fished for crab in the past 3 years so I wasn't really sure if it was open or not. Sure enough the first ring trap they pull up , they began putting crabs in a bucket and out of thin air Fish and Game show up. Long story short, crabbing is in fact closed and those people were lucky to take their gear back with them. We continued fishing till about 3:00pm. We were rather surprised to not find even a bullhead at the end of our lines, maybe its the time of the year? not sure. Also not sure exactly what the limit is on shiner perch and or pile or striped but my interpenetration of the regs indicated it was a 2 a day limit. Anyone want to confirm that?
