Point Defiance Boat House had a Squid Derby Dec. 17 from 4-6pm. It was organized and not crowded. A few squid turned up for those on the right side of the dock. My grandson and I were on the left side.
We did jig up some herring.
The boats came by parading their lights. It was nice. We would look up and there were a few and then look up and see lots.
There were nice people on either side of us trying to help us get squid, from charging our jig to giving out hand warmers.
The big awards went to those who actually caught the species of the derby but there were consolation prizes for us that didn’t. As our names were drawn we got to pick different items. My grandson got a nice haul. Crab ring, salmon net, a bag with miscellaneous tackle.
