Woo! I snapped a big fishless-outings streak today. I fished the Nisqually River from 3 to 6:30 pm. Upon arrival I was pretty bummed because the nets were out. So you either had to fish way upstream from them or way down. Me being the brainchild that I am, I fished upstream from them in a "combat fishing zone" that I've always wanted to fish. After an hour of not even seeing a fish roll I moved downstream from the nets. I was fishing a gravel bar downstream from the fishing bulkhead on 6th Ave., and caught a coho hen of about five pounds around 4:30. Fifteen minutes later I lost a bigger fish right at the bank. Looking at the other anglers fishing was okay overall (this report would be a two or three had I not done well, ha ha), so long as you were well downstream from where the nets started.

Thanks Derrick-k! I think it was beginners luck, This was my first time fishing on a river with nets up, my second time I wasn't so lucky. Yeah, CPG, I'm not sure what the deal with these fish are; it's almost like they don't want to be killed by us or something, ha ha. I'm now 1-for-10 in my salmon trips this year. Which is pretty lousy, but I've only been back on the westside for a month so I'm happy I'm getting out there about every third day. Hopefully the chum run will get us into the salmon catching-groove.
