What an awesome afternoon! Casted gold colored spoons in the break lines and slower riffles. Caught and released 4 beautiful Redsides, 3 at 18" one very nice one at 24". These are some of the most beautiful and hardest fighting trout in the state. Of course had the river to myself as very few fish the upper river, especially this time of year. The flow is low for this time of year, which makes for good fishing. Fish are starting to congregate in spawning areas, which happens in April on this river. Fishing can remain very good into the winter if water flow doesn't get to high, and with are lack of rain so far this fall, it may stay fishable well into winter. Drafting of CDA Lake will end around Dec.1 as it reaches winter pool level. And without heavy rain before then, the river flow is likely to drop even lower.
Remember the Upper Spoken from Upriver dam to the Idaho stateline is catch and release only, with single barbless hooks. NO BAIT! Season Closes, March 16 to June 1 to protect spawning trout.
