I went fishing today from 11:30-2:30pm at the same spot as I always go to. In the pool above where I fish there were 3 guys with bags on the ground and as they picked them up to leave I could see at least on good size fish. They had 13 gallon white bags like I use. So at 12:05pm I had a silver on. I got it in and it was 23” about 4-5lb. There also was evidence that someone has caught fish sometime (I think) the night before because of scales and blood but also I think “night” because of the many of items that were left behind.
I used pink corky and yarn without success and then switched to 2 little red corkies with my cured (natural color) eggs and caught the one I brought home. The river was up a little but still a greenish color visibility to about 2.5 feet.

The hatchery report says their count for silvers is up to 8951 which is the same as last week. The final in–season estimate for the Chinooks is 4464, Pinks 46.

I am between the mouth of the Carbon and the waste plant going toward Orting. Closer to the mouth but I can not see the mouth from the dyke where I walk. Maybe up to 1 mile up river from the mouth. There isn't a McMillan bridge over the Carbon they are over the Puyallup.
I fish this one stretch only. I know where I or others have pulled fish out of it at different water conditions. As of Nov. 30 there isn't any salmon fishing in the Carbon. I don't know anything about the Nisqually or Puyallup. I may have to learn.

Toni; Being inspired by all your great reports I decided to drive from Bremerton over to the carbon to take a look. The river looks so nice for fishing! I didn't find any real good access to the river although I did turn on Williams and found some access behind all the new houses there. Is there any better places to park for access?

Ok-I am blessed because I have friends who live on the river and I park at their house and walk the dyke road. Parking isn't a problem for me. I also only fish the one spot. I don't know every where else that people park to fish. At google maps for Orting http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Orting,+WA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title
The waste treatment plant that I know people park by is at the south end of the developement where Williams street is. Zoom in on that map with the streets named Rocky Road NE is where they park by the waste treatment. If you can see in the map at the top of the google map is says MAPS-SATELLITE

Sorry I hit the wrong button. SATELLITE-HYBRID click satellite and you can see the treatment plant and the dyke road although it looks more like a trail. It runs from the treatment plant down river to a fenced off place that says NO TRESSPASSING and a bunch of other stuff and my friend said that they have in the past shot at people. This year though there isn't any fishing from this side of the river except to the point where I fish, If the river is low enough one could cross and go all the way to the mouth where it enters the Puyallup. The Satellite picture is not current. This has to be about 2 years ago. Some of the houses aren't yet built and the river has changed as of the flood last fall. Go back to the regular MAP-One could park at 145th but the police can give you a ticket-they have in the past so you take your chances. The next place is where the 162 bridge crosses the Puyallup. Trucks park at the bridge and walk to the mouth of the Carbon because you can't fish for salmon in this part of the Puyallup. When I have come over this bridge I have seen guys fishing but if it is for salmon I believe it is illegal.
I have heard that in town people have parked at the end of Bridge st. but I don't know what it is like-also at the Crocker grange outside of town they walk to the river. That is just before the Voights Creek Hatchery. Those are the only places I know of. Nov 30th is the last day to fish for Salmon on the Carbon so I might have to go to the Puyallup. Or just fish for Steelhead in the Carbon. In the map there is a bridge over the Puyallup McMillan-Colburn -McCutcheon Rd. I might go there but it won't be as safe.

Toni; Thank you so much for all the great info and the link to the map. I definately will use it and try before the 30th. You are right about the salmon fishing as it is from the mouth to Voights Creek
